\nMESQUITE<\/span><\/h2>\n

Its scientific name is Prosopis pallida, the origin of the name “carob tree” goes back to the colonial era when the Spanish observed in this tree, known as “tacco” in Quechua, some qualities similar to those of the “European carob tree” (Ceratonia siliqua) .<\/p>\n

Native to the north coast of Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, it has been naturalized in Puerto Rico and on Molokai Island (Hawaii). It has been introduced as a crop in the northeast of Brazil, India and Australia.<\/p>\n

Today it is known that the carob tree has been used since pre-Hispanic times, thanks to the findings of Antonio Raimondi, who on one of his trips found representations of pre-Inca deities carved in the wood of this species.<\/p>\n

The carob tree is considered “a gift from God” by the inhabitants of the north of the country. And it is that despite growing in the most arid areas, using minimal amounts of water, it offers multiple benefits of great importance to the region.<\/p>\n

TRADITIONAL USE<\/h2>\n

Mesquite Powder is obtained from the grinding of the pods, using the appropriate methods, in such a way that the product has a particle size of less than 0.15 mm. This derivative of carob has started to be marketed to be used as an ingredient in cookies and other bakery and pastry products.<\/p>\n

CHOLESTEROL REDUCTION:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Two human trials with more than 100 participants confirm that, in the context of a balanced diet, carob fiber can significantly reduce cholesterol values, in particular LDL cholesterol, in people with high levels of cholesterolemia. In an open, uncontrolled clinical study, it was observed that the daily intake of 15 grams of carob fiber for 6 weeks reduced the total cholesterol level by 7.8% and the LDL cholesterol level by 12.2%.<\/p>\n

ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Unlike other dietary fibers, carob fiber contains tannins, previously considered toxic products and today revalued within the group of polyphenols as antioxidants and powerful protectors that prevent the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines, they are anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic and beneficial for the heart. and the kidneys.
\nIn vitro studies have shown that carob fiber can effectively inactivate free radicals and other reactive substances, something that has only been demonstrated to a limited extent in other sources of dietary fiber.<\/p>\n

Being very rich in mucilages, which is a kind of soluble fiber, it acts against inflammation of the mucosa, eliminating irritation of the respiratory tract.
\nFurthermore, it is proven that this carob resin is an excellent expectorant agent, thus cleaning the airways.<\/p>\n

GREAT NUTRITIONAL CONTRIBUTION:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

It is an energy food, it has 50% natural sugar (fructose, glucose and sucrose) and 11% protein, being very rich in tryptophan.
\nIt also has a source of vitamins belonging to group B, such as B1 or thiamine, B2 or riboflavin, B3 or niacin and pro vitamin A or beta-carotene.
\nIt should be noted that it does not have gluten (it does not contain gliadin or glutenin) so it can be consumed by celiacs and therefore it is suitable for celiacs and it has few fats (3%), but of excellent quality.
\nAmong its main minerals are potassium (in high amounts), phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, silicon and iron. It can be used as a substitute for coffee and cacao.<\/p>\n

AGAINST DIGESTIVE CONDITIONS:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Recent studies demonstrate the great effectiveness of Mesquite powder against ulcers, childhood diarrhea and intestinal infections. Its fibers have a triple effect: they convert the liquid into colloidal gel, they distend the intestinal walls and stimulate a correct peristalsis that eliminates painful contractions. HOW TO USE?<\/h2>\n
